Further specilization to become a DG PARO specialist

The Department of Periodontology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin has been authorized to train DG PARO specialists since August 2011.

By studying dentistry, every dentist is qualified to diagnose periodontal diseases at an early stage and to treat mild to moderate cases. However, in some cases it is necessary to see a dentist who specializes in periodontology, such as a specialist in periodontology.

Further information

The German Society for Periodontology established the DG PARO Specialist in Periodontology® in 1992.
The training to become a DG PARO Specialist in Periodontology® is identical to the training to become a specialist in periodontology and also includes training of approx. 5,000 hours. Of these, 2 years must be completed at a specialist department for periodontology at a university dental clinic or comparable training centers. The final examination is taken before a commission of the DG PARO.

The Specialist Dentist for Periodontology and the DG PARO Specialist for Periodontology® can be described as the most extensively trained periodontists. The Specialist Dentists for Periodontology and the DG PARO-Specialists for Periodontology® are organized in the Professional Association of Specialist Dentists and Specialists for Periodontology (BFSP).

Specialist training includes 5000 hours of patient treatment, teaching (seminars, journal clubs, case presentations) and research. One focus is the conservative and surgical therapy of periodontitis and periimplantitis and their synoptic further treatment. Two years must be completed in a department of periodontology of a university dental clinic or comparable training centers, whereby the CharitéCentrum für Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferheilkunde der Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin has been a recognized training center since August 1, 2011.

The training is carried out in close cooperation with the local professional society for periodontology BGP under the direction of Prof. Dr. Henrik Dommisch, DG PARO specialist.
